Animal Welfare Education Programme For Children at Furry Friends Farm

Spending Quality Time with rescued stray animals was fun and exciting for 11 Grade 4 and Grade 5 students from the Mont Kiara International School, Selangor. 2 parents and 3 teachers accompanied the 11 children in this real fun visit to Furry Friends Farm on the 15th November, 2009.

Children are excited and delighted to have a direct interaction with the animals and to cuddle and pet the cats, kittens and puppies. They learn how to cuddle cats, kittens and puppies, feed the cats and puppies , identify the males and females of puppies and coax the cats and kittens with toys they have brought along.

The animals seemed to be excited as well with the donated toys and special treats of canned food. The children, teachers and parents enjoyed very much interacting with the animals and looked forward to plan for more visits to the animals in future as part of the school's interesting Animal Welfare Education.

We would like to Thank Miss Rebecca Simpson, Miss Lorri and Miss Pearly for taking the initiative in organizing the Animal Welfare Educational Tour for the kids and parents.

Children are given the opportunity to interact with the animals. The direct interactions activity have given both the children and the animals a sense of confidence in approaching each other without feelings of stress.

Puppy Love

Group discussions for the children in sharing their feelings with the two months old puppies.

Children were encouraged to think of some nice names for the four puppies after learning to identify the male and female puppies. The children were very excited to cuddle the cute puppies. As the children were busying with their discussions, a grey cat managed to take its chance in tasting the Yummy puppy food as well.
